Why assimilation is bad and supporting the status quo stifles creativity and expression (to no one's suprise)
When average people with average hobbies critize peers that show diversity of thought without compromise to their capability in life it makes me cringe so hard. It's something I truly don't understand and can only imagine being related to a certain "stiffness" of thought or lack of flexibility in changing their ways of thinking. Probably two of the hottest topics at the moment are gender expression as well as neurodiversity which is especially important in America at the moment as the current POTUS cuts funding for transgender treatments and the current secretary of health apparently wants to crack down on autistic people in a variety of ways. For someone who doesn't necessarily show any compromise in what they are capable of why is it that those people still always end up getting socially ostracized by the general populus? The only reason I can come up with is probably that some level of "conservative" thought is necessary to uphold structures in our society. For instance the shared belief in money or democracy, if we changed our minds all the time then we wouldn't have stability I suppose.
A lot of what we regard in terms of self-expression is purely arbitrary though, just look at fashon it changes endlessly. Why can't other forms of expression be the same way if they're done well?
